About Capricorn Photography

Profile

Back in 2008, Alan was on holiday in Zurich, Switzerland visiting a friend, who is a journalist. Dropped on Alan's friend was to go to a screening of The Cove and then interview the filmmaker Rick O'Barry, the original dolphin trainer for the TV series Flipper, who later turned dolphin freedom and activist. Alan was in turn drafted in as a then keen amateur photographer, given a Canon DSLR and told to photograph Rick and Alan's friend. The photos were suitable and published; this was Alan's first publishing credit. After the interview, sat outside a caf‚ in Zurich near the Limmat river with a coffee and a bun in the Swiss sunshine, the seed was sown. "You know what, I could definitely do this for a living".

Two years later Alan quit his job and studied at the University of Bradford, graduating with a first-class BA (hons) degree in Photography for Digital Media. Since then Capricorn Photography has gone from strength to strength and is now a successful and thriving full-time business. Alan is a member of the Royal Photographic Society and awarded their Licentiate qualification; Alan is also an accredited press photographer with the Chartered Institute of Journalists. He has contributed to a number of print and online publications in both the UK and Switzerland, including Swiss News, Attika, The Wharfedale Observer and Unternehmer Zeitung, where one of his photographs was also featured on the cover. Besides his media and public relations work, Alan is also a passionate landscape and portrait photographer.

Alan also loves to take landscape photographs on his Mamiya 645 film camera using black and white film and using a yellow (K2) filter.
